The Wellness Workshops continue to offer safe spaces where people can come together to learn about their health and wellbeing. These group processes are high in energy and engagement, and much like last year, we’ve seen an increased number of male participants in our groups. A lot of the groups we work with were seniors, the team do a great job of adjusting the process to ensure the seniors are all able to participate in the process.

The ARV Adherence Clubs at Kuyasa clinic have expanded at an exponential rate. The Adherence Clubs provide community-based care to HIV positive patients who, through the programme, can access treatment from community-based settings, instead of needing to access care and treatment from the clinic, thereby lowering the pressure on the public health system. In February 2017 we only had one ARV adherence Club with 20 members and now we’ve established and run 5 new clubs reaching 195 HIV positive patients. All of this success is due to Noncedo Jikwana Mkhohli, our new club facilitator’s commitment and hard work

The Grandmothers Network, Masikhulisane Bogogo has grown from strength to strength. Lead by Thandi Blie, this network supports a group of active grandmothers who are leading change and supporting others in their communities. Mamelani’s role has been to create a shared learning space where the grandmothers can get the support that they need, to support those around them. The sessions have helped the group to understand how to better support children with HIV, victims of sexual violence and those who have lost loved ones. We salute these gogo’s for the important role they play in their communities!

Over 100 participants arrived at this year’s Annual Awareness Day event. The intention of the day is always to create a space for stress release, laughter and sharing of information and services to communities that need it the most. In 2017, alongside the usual HIV, TB, High Blood Pressure and Diabetes testing, the information sharing session and competitive games, the team added a new element – a choir competition! It really was a day of song, of laughter and of celebration!
